- Karnataka signed two MoUs, one for the exploration of a satellite port to New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) and another for the exploration of tourism infrastructure in Karnataka in collaboration with Sagarmala Development Company Ltd, New Delhi. These two MoUs were signed during the course of Karnataka State’s Special Session, chaired by Shri Mankal S Vaidya, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Ports, & Inland Water Transport, Government of Karnataka, on 18.10.2023 at the Global Maritime India Summit 2023, being organized at the MMRDA Ground, Mumbai. The session captured the attention of key stakeholders at the global event, with the Karnataka Coast’s remarkable investment potential of over ₹7,000 Cr being showcased on the international stage.
- The session also saw 3 additional MoUs exchanged by NMPA, Karnataka’s one and only Major Port, with the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, and Sealord Containers Ltd.
- The session witnessed significant footfall, as global sector experts were keen to learn about the large array of maritime investment opportunities present in Karnataka. The vast bouquet of Projects, ranging from development of large-scale Greenfield ports, to Shipbuilding yards, Waterways Hospitality and Sea food parks were presented comprehensively. All officials present in the meeting, led by the Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Ports, & Inland Water Transport, Government of Karnataka, extended an open invitation to private investors, to collaborate and sustainably develop Karnataka’s Coast.
- The meeting also paved a path for fruitful collaborations, as the Karnataka Maritime Board, facilitated by the state’s Knowledge Partner – Black Brix, exchanged two Memorandum of Understanding with Central Agencies i.e. New Mangalore Port Authority, represented by their Chairman Dr. Venkata Ramana Akkaraju & Sagarmala Development Company Limited, represented by their Managing Director, Shri Dilip Kumar Gupta.
- The session was followed by multiple promising and constructive interactions between officials of the Karnataka Maritime Board and delegations from the global market. These delegations included Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones, JM Baxi, and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company.
- The session was chaired by Shri Mankal S Vaidya, Hon’ble Minister for Fisheries, Ports, & Inland Water Transport, Government of Karnataka. The session included addresses by senior Government authorities of the maritime sector, including Shri Gaurav Gupta, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, Government of Karnataka, Dr. Venkata Ramana Akkaraju, Chairman, New Mangalore Port Authority, Shri Jayaram Raipura, Chief Executive Officer, Karnataka Maritime Board, Shri Sanjay Kumar Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, Capt. C. Swamy, Director Ports & Member, Karnataka Maritime Board, and Shri Dineshkumar Kaller, Director, Department of Fisheries, Government of Karnataka. The session was moderated by Shri Sameep Jain, Chairman & Managing Director of Black Brix – Karnataka’s Knowledge partner for the Global Maritime India Summit, 2023.
- The event also saw multiple insightful addresses by industry experts, including Shri Devki Nandan, Head M&A & Business Development, JSW Infrastructure Limited, Shri Nitesh Samant, Chief – Logistics & Strategy, Vedanta – Sesa Goa, and Capt. Unmesh Abhyankar, Joint President, CEO Office, Adani Ports & SEZ.
- The second day of the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 was a major step forward for the Karnataka Maritime Board, with the summit being abuzz with the development potential and Coastal offerings showcased in the Special Session of Karnataka.
The Global India Maritime Summit 2023, India’s Largest Maritime Conclave, is scheduled from 17.10.2023 to 19.10.2023 at the MMRDA Ground, Mumbai was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Government of India.
